Overview
Dacia has announced an all-new second-generation version of the Spring electric city car, which is set to go on sale in early 2027.
The new Spring has been redesigned from the ground up and now sits on a fresh Renault Group platform, shared with the Renault Twingo.
While the current Spring is the UK’s cheapest new car – at less than £12,000 – the new version is expected to cost from £18,000. It’s likely to qualify for the Government’s electric car grant, however.
For the extra cash, Dacia is offering a much more comprehensive vehicle. The current Spring is based on an 11-year-old petrol car developed for the Indian market and built in China. The new model will be built in Europe and features the latest technology.
The new platform should also improve safety, with the Twingo recently gaining a four-star rating from Euro NCAP – a significant improvement on the current Spring’s one-star score.
Width has been increased by 18mm, giving a much wider stance, while length has also been increased. As such, there’s more room inside for passengers and a 337-litre boot. The Spring’s turning circle remains compact, at 4.95 metres.
It’s powered by an 80PS motor and features a 27.5kWh battery, giving a range (WLTP) of 155 miles. DC charging is supported at 50kW, while a vehicle-to-load function will enable external devices to be powered by the car’s battery.
Entry-level Expression models will feature a Bluetooth speaker system, while the Journey trim gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity.
The Expression also gets remote locking, a height adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning and rear parking sensors. Journey models gain keyless entry and a reversing camera.
Dacia plans to launch the new Spring in early 2027. Pricing is expected to be announced in due course.

Price(s) quoted based on a 48 month agreement with an example deposit of £499.00 on delivery of the car. More deposit than the examples given may be given and this will reduce the monthly rental. Price(s) based on 10,000 miles per annum. The first payment of the agreement commences by direct debit one month from the date of delivery.
